Parent Guide
Getting Started with Omega
A practical guide for families who are beginning -- or considering -- homeschooling with Omega. No jargon, no pressure. Just the information you need to make a confident start.
Four Steps to Begin
Prepare Your Space
Set up a quiet, orderly work area. A small table, a shelf for materials, and good light are enough to start. You do not need a dedicated classroom.
Explore the Curriculum
Browse your child's age group in our curriculum guide. Pick two or three subjects to begin with rather than trying everything at once.
Establish a Rhythm
Children thrive on predictability. Start each morning the same way. A two- to three-hour work block, a break, then an afternoon of reading or outdoor time.
Observe and Adjust
Watch what holds your child's attention. Good homeschooling works by following the child, so your first weeks are about listening more than teaching.
Questions New Families Ask
Do I need a teaching background?
No. Our materials and guides are designed for parents without formal training. You are a guide, not a lecturer.
How many hours per day should we plan?
Most families work for two to four hours in the morning. Young children need less; older students may do more, especially with independent reading.
Can I teach children of different ages at the same time?
Yes. Mixed-age learning is part of effective child-centered education. Many activities scale naturally, and older children benefit from mentoring younger ones.
What if my child has been in a traditional school?
Expect a transition period. Children who are used to external direction often need several weeks to discover their own interests and working rhythm.
