Summer 2026

A summer spent outside.

Omega Summer is nature-based learning rooted in child-centered principles. Children work with real materials -- soil, water, wood, field guides -- and have the long, unhurried days that deep observation requires. No screens. No schedules carved into fifteen-minute blocks. Just children, outdoors, doing real things.

Programs by Age

Three programs, one principle

Ages 3 -- 6

Early Explorers

Sensory work with natural materials, water play, gardening, and outdoor practical life. Morning circles of song and story. Long, unstructured stretches of self-chosen work in a prepared outdoor space.

Ages 6 -- 9

Field & Forest

Nature journaling, creek studies, simple botany and geology. Children observe, record, and share findings. Writing and arithmetic grow from real questions: How tall is that tree? How far did the water travel?

Ages 9 -- 12

Research & Craft

Extended research projects chosen by the child: local history, ecology, woodworking, textile arts. Each child presents their work to the community at the end of the session. Materials, tools, and mentorship are provided.

“There is no description, no image in any book that is capable of replacing the sight of real trees in a real forest.”

Maria Montessori

Daily Rhythm

A typical day

Summer at Omega follows the same principle as the school year: long, uninterrupted work cycles with adults who observe rather than direct. The difference is that nearly everything happens outdoors.

8:30 am

Arrival and outdoor circle. Children settle into the space and choose their first work.

9:00 -- 11:30

Extended morning work cycle. Gardening, nature observation, craft, reading, writing -- each child follows their own plan.

11:30 -- 12:30

Community lunch, prepared together. Practical life: cooking, serving, cleaning.

12:30 -- 2:30

Afternoon work cycle. Quieter pursuits: journaling, watercolor, field sketching, or continued projects.

2:30 -- 3:00

Closing circle. Sharing observations, reading aloud, reflecting on the day.
